Cape May a la Vegan

Beau and Alfie are back!

These two crazy cats are back in action reviewing vegan restaurants with the help of our pastry chef extraordinaire Burro Burro.

What better way to kick off our come back then to reflect on our recent vacation trip to Cape May, NJ.


Just take Exit Zero, yep exit 0, and just a short drive away is the sea side town of Cape May. We two cats wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle for three days so our review will just be some highlights of the trip.


Our Room




We stayed at the Carroll Villa. A large victorian house set perfectly a block away from the beach and a block away from shopping. Our room was a bit pricy for these two cheap kitties but it was nice none the less.



The Mad Batter is the hotel's restaurant and is very pricey. As guests we received a $30 breakfast voucher for every day we stayed there. We also were told for dinner that we would receive 30% off the bill and they threw in a $25 gift card towards the restaurant  Needless to say we ate there three times, twice for breakfast and once for dinner. 

Now onto the food!

Ambiance:

Alfie: The ambiance was nice. Wooden tables with cute hand drawn map of Cape May as the place mate. The view was great! There are no windows instead as you are on a large porch so we had a great view of the street as people walked by and just took in the neighborhood vibe. There was a day when it rained but they put down clear plastic window panels that cover the whole window. 


Breakfast:

Alfie: For breakfast we had the same thing for both days, the vegan BLT. The BLT was good and large. The bread was a bagel and came with batter home fries. The fresh squeezed orange juice was fantastic! It tasted very fresh and was wonderful. This kitty is always trying to watch his figure so I never finished this meal as the portions were large. On day two I had a fruit bowl which was okay. It wasn't really a bowl but more of a plate of fruit. Ask for the small bowl if you want to get it as the full bowl is $9 and there was no way that it was that much worth of fruit on the plate.

Dinner:

Alfie:  For dinner Beau and I shared our meal and it was alright. There are not a ton of options on any of the menus for vegans so don't think that you will have a lot of choices. That being said this restaurant offered the best food our of all the places we ate meals at in Cape May. They bring you a basket of bread and some small bowls filled with spices. From there you can add as much or as little olive oil as you want for your dipping sauce. Beau loved it! I liked it as well as it was tasty and yummy. Fun fact: this cat is a carb lover. The fettuccine puttanesca was good but not extraordinaire. While I love carbs pasta is not one of my favorite dishes to have and I rarely order it.

Burro: No review for me! Muy malo! We inquired about desserts but there were none to be had. The waitress informed us that there is sometimes a vegan desert but not that evening. 


Bliss 

Good Earth Organic Eatery


We saw this advertised in a small map that was in our room. What drew us in? "Organic and Vegan food". We walk to the restaurant which was a fifteen minute walk, no problem. 

Ambiance: This place lacked so many things I hardly know where to start. We walk in and there is counter so we imagine that it is where you check in. We called to see if it was open and they suggested making a reservation. At the counter we were stunned to find out that it was for Bliss Ice Cream and to head to the back. The room where this is taking place is small. We walk about ten feet to the other counter and find ourselves being seated at a large wooden table. There are about four other tables besides ours. Candle on the table was unlit, small flower with mint plant was a nice touch.
